Copying PS2 Games Made Easy – No More Mod Chips Necessary

It has finally been done, now it is possible to make a back up of a Sony Playstation 2 game and run it on your console, without a mod chip.

Using a series of programs to get around the security checks that are performed when the disk lid, or flippy, is closed. The programs used are the Independence Exploiter and Swap Magic. Up to this point a bios chip modification was required, but now this can be done by installing the Independence Exploiter program using a Swap Magic Boot disk to swap out the disk and install the program.

There are also utilities that will allow the Independence Exploiter program to run from a flash drive on the USB, or via a network connection. There are several websites offering the software for download, and giving rather detailed instruction on how to use the programs, as several methods for installing are quite entailed.

Regardless of not having to use the hardware modification, the method involving the program Swap Magic requires modification of the disc drive door. In one method removing the small plastic on the front of the disc tray, and in another modding the flippy to open without alerting the system. The system is alerted when the button to open the door is pressed, so will recheck for the security coding.

The Independence Exploiter will only work on certain types of PS2’s though. Those who own the newer thinner version of the console, dubbed “PSTwo,” are unfortunately left out, and will still have to resort to the chip modification.

This is an outstanding development in the gaming community. Now it is possible to easily back up your PS2 games, and use them. Before the backups were essentially useless without the chip mod because the security device on PS2 games cannot be duplicated by commercial individual burners, making any back ups created useless.
